Pre-purchase Vehicle Inspection · Richmond, BC

Pre-purchase vehicle inspection in Richmond, before you pay

A used car can look fine and still hide costly problems. A pre-purchase inspection puts an independent set of eyes on the car before you commit. A mobile provider can often meet you and the seller at the car's location. Richmond Mobile Mechanic does not do the work. We pass your enquiry to an independent provider who does.

What to look for

How to tell it is time for pre-purchase vehicle inspection.

  • You are buying from a private seller and have no service history
  • The car is priced well below similar listings
  • The seller will not let anyone else inspect it
  • The car has had accident repairs, or you are not sure
  • You are buying out of province or at auction
  • You want to know about upcoming repair costs before you negotiate

What to expect

Pre-purchase Vehicle Inspection: what is involved.

A thorough inspection covers the engine, transmission, brakes, suspension, steering, tires, fluids, lights and electrical items. The provider looks for leaks, rust, uneven panel gaps, signs of accident repair and warning lights. Many include a test drive and a scan for stored codes.

The report is useful in two ways. It can steer you away from a bad car, and it can give you specific repair items to raise when negotiating the price. Ask for the findings in writing, with photos where possible.

In BC, licensed dealers are regulated by the Vehicle Sales Authority, while private sales are less protected. An inspection does not replace checking the vehicle's history and registration details, and ICBC handles ownership transfer. BCAA also publishes information on vehicle inspections. Always arrange access with the seller before booking.

Step by step

What happens after you get in touch.

  1. Share the listing

Send the make, model, year and where the car is located so the provider can plan the visit.

  2. Arrange access

Confirm a time with the seller. Expect to pay for the inspection yourself as the buyer.

  3. Inspect and test drive

The provider checks mechanical, safety and body items, then drives the car.

  4. Review the report

Ask for the findings in writing, then decide whether to buy, negotiate or walk away.

Cost

What pre-purchase vehicle inspection costs in Richmond.

Price depends on the vehicle type, how deep the inspection goes, travel distance and whether a test drive and written report are included. The provider you speak with sets the price. Ask exactly what the inspection covers before you book.

FAQ

Pre-purchase Vehicle Inspection questions.

Is a pre-purchase inspection worth it on a private-sale car?

In most cases, yes. Private sales usually come with less protection than dealer purchases, and an inspection fee is small next to a major repair. It also gives you facts to use in price negotiation.

What if the seller will not allow an inspection?

That is a warning sign. A seller with nothing to hide generally agrees. If they refuse, consider walking away.

Does an inspection tell me if a car has been in an accident?

It can show signs of past repair, but it does not replace a vehicle history check. Do both before buying.
